We are a dedicated group working towards improving the pharmacy landscape in New York State. Our coalition aims to raise funds to initiate positive legislative changes that will benefit pharmacies across the state.
As fellow pharmacy owners, we understand the challenges faced by small businesses in our industry. One significant obstacle is the limited scope of practice for pharmacy technicians when it comes to compounding or mixing medications in a community pharmacy. Technicians are currently allowed to compound in hospital or IV homecare settings, but New York State law restricts them from assisting with compounding medications in community pharmacies. This restriction hinders the growth and potential of our businesses and may compromise patient care. For instance, technicians in community settings are not permitted to measure out water for antibiotic reconstitution.
We firmly believe that empowering technicians with the ability to weigh, measure, and pour medications will enhance their professional development, alleviate the workload burden on pharmacists, and ultimately improve patient care and safety. The current New York law is out of sync with every other state in the country, putting our practices at risk.
To bring about this vital change in legislation, the Coalition for the Advancement of Small Business Pharmacy (CASBP) is actively working to raise funds. We are seeking support from influential stakeholders like yourself, who possess expertise and potential resources and understand the importance of expanding the role of pharmacy technicians in our efforts to achieve this goal. By joining hands, we can make a significant impact and create a more favorable environment for all pharmacists in the state, regardless of their practice setting.
We kindly request your consideration in making a donation to our coalition. Your generous one-time or ongoing contribution will be utilized to fund lobbying efforts, public awareness campaigns, and legal consultations in support of our cause. We are committed to ensuring that every penny raised is put to effective use, and we will keep you informed about our progress and the outcomes of our initiatives. We have engaged an Albany firm, and the overall cost for this project is anticipated to be around $120,000.
We understand that funds are often tight, given the pressures we face. However, this change is essential for our survival as a profession, allowing us to move beyond being relegated as mere technicians and ensuring that we are not passed over by history as pharmacy practice advances in other states.
On the donate tab of this site, you can contribute to our cause! Any amount you can contribute will make a meaningful difference and bring us closer to achieving our goals, while also helping protect you from potential state actions, as several pharmacies have been cited and fined for having technicians compound in the past year.
Additionally, we encourage you to spread the word about our coalition within your network and among other pharmacy owners and pharmacists who share our vision for positive change. Together, we can build a stronger pharmacy community in New York State.
Thank you for considering our request. We greatly appreciate your support and are confident that, with your help, we can make significant strides towards improving our practice and protecting patients.
